Wool Covers Adorable, affordable recycled wool covers, shorts and pants for over those Better Bum fitteds. All of our recycled wool is machine washed and dryed, then lanolized before you receive it. What does this mean for you? If hubby accidentally does the wash, your BB wool will probably be ok, even if it does go through the dryer. They're also ready to wear as soon as you get them.
Why wool?
Wool is anti-bacterial and breathable. Yes, it's a little harder to take care of, but more than worth it. And, it's not just for fitteds users. If your child is a super soaker, consider using wool over pockets for an extra layer of protection. Besides, they're just simply adorable.
How do I know which size to get?
Recycled wool doesn't come in traditional sizes because of the way it's made. I do put up sizes as guidelines, but you really MUST measure your child. Always measure over their bulkiest diaper, and you want your childs measurements to be near the middle or lower end of the size range so that you have room to grow.
Waist measurement: This one's easy, measure around his/her waist where the pants will go (right above the diaper).
Rise measurement: Measure from their bellybutton (or wherever the pants should start) down through their crotch and up to their waistline in the back.
Inseam: This is just like mens pants. Measure from their crotch down to the floor.
Thigh measurement: If you child has especially chunky thighs, just measure around right below their crotch to make sure the pants won't be tight.
Ok, how do I care for wool?
There are two steps: lanolizing and washing. Your BB's will come lanolized, but each time you lanolize they get more waterproof. You can buy fancy spray or liquid lanolin, or use lanolin breast cream. I simply melt about 1/4 inch of lanolin in hot water in my sink and add a little wool wash. Once it's melted, run cold water in to make the sink tepid. Soak/swirl/soak wool for at least an hour or two, or even overnight. Then dry. To wash, simply fill sink with tepid water with a little wool wash and wash them out. Then dry :) Helpful drying tip: Put the wet wool in your washer on the spin cycle. It'll come out half dry, then just lay it on a cooling rack or towel overnight.
How often do I wash or lanolize?
Most wool wash has lanolin in it, so just lanolize if you notice they're not as waterproof as you'd like. I wash my wool once a week or whenever dirty.
Do they need to be all lambswool? What do the different fabric types mean to me? I only sell longies with a minimum of 75% wool. Lambswool, Angora, Merino and Cashmere are all natural fibers and all count towards the wool total. Nylon is found in many sweaters to make them stronger, and since Nylon doesn't wick, having some in your longies is fine. Acryllic is also a non-wicking fiber. You never want cotton in them, however.
